Boris Johnson risks angering Trump as he scraps vital visit to The White House - AGAIN

BORIS JOHNSON risks sparking more fractious tensions between himself and US President Donald Trump after deciding to scrap a visit to the US next month.

The US President is desperate to confirm a trade deal between American and the UK before his re-election campaign begins in the Autumn. Trump’s plans were to begin trade talks with Mr Johnson during the Prime Minister’s high profile visit to the White House.

However, the Prime Minister has now repeatedly delayed and cancelled the trip which was expected to take place both in January and the end of this month.

Reportedly, it has now been decided to scrap the meeting until June - a full four months away.

Mr Johnson is expected to visit Trump’s official retreat Camp David for a summit of G7 leaders during the trip.

No 10 sources have confirmed the cancellation and insisted it was because Mr Johnson wished to drive through his promises to the nation which he pleaded during the election in December.

Sources also insisted the cancellation was not to snub the President, despite a series of feuds between the two leaders recently.

A close ally also denied a rumour that it was because Mr Johnson wanted to remain by the side of his girlfriend Carrie Symonds amid alleged health concerns.

A senior Downing Street source used a Lord of the Rings reference to analogise the Prime Minister’s plans.

They told The Sun: “Levelling up the country, making the streets safe and sorting out the NHS is why the PM won the election.

“When the Eye of Sauron is off the Whitehall machine, things stop working.

"That is why he has stripped down all his foreign travel this year to get his agenda done.”

However, Mr Johnson’s decision to scrap the visit could risk angering Trump further, after the pair had a vicious exchange following the Prime Minister’s decision to allow Chinese telecoms giant Huawei to help build the 5G network.

The heavyweight leaders also riffed over the US’ refusal to extradite the woman who reportedly killed teen biker Harry Dunn.

The recent sparring between Iran and the US has also sparked tensions between Mr Johnson and Trump.

The Prime Minister’s decision to cancel his travel plans has also reportedly alarmed his staff.

Reportedly, he has also scrapped plans to take a trade trip to Australia and New Zealand.

Foreign Trade Secretary Dominic Raab was dispatched to Japan last week to discuss a trade deal rather than Mr Johnson himself.

Another No 10 source added: “There is a lot of concern about this in the house.

“If we don’t do any trade tours this year, it’s going to effect the entire Brexit process.

“The PM is our best asset”.

It comes as Mr Johnson decided to wield the axe at his Cabinet, and tore apart the rules of the establishment during a dramatic day in Westminster yesterday.
